Notice of Race for 2022 DBSC Spring Chicken Series

Dublin Bay Sailing Club has published the Notice of Race for its 2022 Spring Chicken series.

SPRING CHICKEN 2022 NORLOGO

Six races will be held on Sunday mornings from 6 February to 13 March (first gun 1010 hrs), using a progressive handicap on a time-to-time basis.

Cruisers, cruising boats, one-designs and boats that do not normally race are “very welcome”, DBSC adds. And after the sailing, prize draws, food and more will be kindly hosted by the National Yacht Club.

The entry fee is €60 which includes temporary membership of DBSC and the NYC. Entries can be made online here

Anyone experiencing issues with their entries is invited to contact Chris Moore, Hon Sec at 087 7626976 or Fintan Cairns at 087 2439208.

Sailing instructions will be available on Sunday 6 February and will be emailed to entrants beforehand.

DBSC advises that the last date for entries is Wednesday 2 February, and warns that handicaps of late entries will be adjusted accordingly.

First, we have 2 overnight outings booked as follows…

3rd – 4th March, the wonderful links at Rosslare Golf Club, and staying at Kelly’s Hotel, Bed & Breakfast, plus Dinner @ 135.00 + 10% s.c. (50.00 single supp.)

21st-22nd June @ Knightsbrook Spa and Golf Resort, 2 rounds of golf, Bed & Breakfast plus dinner for 220.00 (+50.00 single supp.)

If you wish to play in these outings, please pay 25.00 per person for each of the outings you intend to play (NOTE: this is non-refundable), by Fri 21st Jan. When paying, tell Oonagh in the office which outings you are booking,


Second – your outline schedule for 2022.

We ask you to get these dates into your diary asap., and we hope you can play in most of them. Note that the green fees below might be increased slightly to cover prizes etc..

Most important is to book your places in the 2 overnight events, Rosslare & Knightsbrook,, and to pay the deposit by Friday next (21st Jan)

Did you know? The more coffee our members drink, the more trees are planted in Ireland!!

Indeed, our coffee supplier Watermark, headed by NYC Member David Lawlor, is behind the Woodland Coffee initiative…Woodland Coffee is about actively addressing the threat of climate change by planting trees in Ireland while also producing fantastic coffee that does not cost the earth!

Instructors Wanted for Summer 2022 – DEADLINE TO APPLY MONDAY 31ST JANUARY MIDNIGHT

The National Yacht Club is currently seeking to recruit a team of committed sailing instructors and assistant instructors to run our popular summer courses in 2022.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to teach and develop our club’s young sailors whilst gaining experience, developing your skills and having lots of fun on and off the water.

The dates for summer courses 2022 are as follows. The summer sailing courses will be full days.

  • Course 1: 7-17 June 2022
  • Course 2: 20 June – 1 July 2022
  • Course 3: 4 July – 15 July 2022
  • Course 4: 18 – 29 July 2022
  • Course 5: 2 – 12 August 2022

We are looking for Dinghy Instructors, Advanced Instructors and an Assistant Senior Instructor, as well as Assistant Instructors. Please note that places are in high demand. In previous years it was not always possible to offer a job to all applicants.

Clubhouse opening hours – January 2022

Dear Members,

Further to Governments recent update on guidelines in hospitality, please be reminded of changes to the opening hours of the Clubhouse until January 31st.

Throughout January Food service will begin at 12.30pm and last orders will be at 7pm from Tuesday to Friday. A new Brunch Menu will be available on Saturday from 10.30am until 3pm and dining menu is available until 7pm. Sunday Lunch remains as normal.

The National Dip / Christmas Eve Swim – in aid of Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital

On Christmas Eve, over 70 swimmers – including the Monkstown CBC Senior rugby team – braved the cold waters at the National Yacht Club slipway in order to raise funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital. Organised by John Corcoran, this is the fifth year the event has taken place and over €35,000 has been raised for these causes.

 I would like to thank members for their generosity both in time given to support John and in making donations at the Turkey Shoot, the NYC Quiz nights as well as the Commodore’s Dinner and other club events during December.
