As this year draws to a close and we reflect on a very different time in NYC history, we take comfort in the many sailing activities we successfully ran, and the outlet the Club provided as a place to relax and unwind from a difficult year.
Our priority is to give you, our Members, a safe environment for you and your families to enjoy the festive celebrations and all their welcomed traditions.

If you are interested in sailing in the NYC Spring Match Racing series on the Club fleet of Elliott 6ms, please see details below and fill out this expression of interest form. This does not confirm you an entry as entries will be managed based on demand.
The National Yacht Club Spring Match Racing Series 2021 will run for 6 weeks, every Saturday, from the 19th Feb. We have space for 6 teams and each day will consist of one round robin of races in the clubs Elliot 6’s. Each day will run from 1000-1400.
The cost for the series will remain the same as the last series at €315 per team (€105pp if not a full team) + Damage Deposit. This includes the use of all equipment needed as well as a free training weekend before the series starts.
A new bill proposes establishing a dedicated statutory authority for the conservation of Dublin Bay, as the Dublin People reports.
The bill has been introduced to the Dáil by Dublin Bay South TD Ivana Bacik, who said: “We need to act now to ensure that the environmental protection of Dublin Bay is a priority, not an afterthought.”
It’s intended that the Dublin Bay Authority would draw its membership “from elected members of the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly and others with a special expertise or interest in the future protection of Dublin Bay”.
The historic Kingstown to Queenstown Race, jointly hosted by the National Yacht Club, the Royal Cork Yacht Club and the Irish Sea Offshore Racing Association (ISORA), will return in 2022 in a modern-day format — reviving the tradition of a race first run in 1860.
The 270-mile offshore race will start in Dun Laoghaire (formerly Kingstown) and finish in Cork Harbour at Cobh (formerly Queenstown) — via Fastnet Rock.
Scheduled to run on the weekend of 1 July 2022, the participating fleet will have plenty of time to arrive in Cork ahead of the racing and festivities of Volvo Cork Week 2022.
In 1860 the first ever ocean yacht race in the United Kingdom was held from Kingstown (Now Dun Laoghaire) to Queenstown (Now Cobh). It is reported that the winner of the race was paid a prize of £15 at the time and all competing boat got a bursary of 10/6 each. The winner of the first race was a Schooner Kingfisher owned by Cooper Penrose Esq. The race was held on the 14th of July 1860 and had sixteen boats racing.
This year, the winning boat will be awarded a first prize of a cheque for €15 mounted and framed, made out by the Royal Cork Yacht Club the oldest yacht club in the world to the winner of the oldest ocean yacht race in United Kingdom.
Mark Hassett came out on top to win the inaugural National Yacht Club Match Racing Invitational on Sunday 5 December.
With his team of Adam Hyland and Robbie English, Hassett beat an impressive field of national champions and Olympic sailors to come out victorious.
After a postponement on Day 1 due to unfavourable conditions, the fleet of seven teams finally got out in the NYC’s fleet of purpose-built Elliott 6M match-racing boats. After multiple attempts and gusts upwards of 35 knots, it was decided to cancel racing for the day and have an early start the next day instead.
As Sunday rolled around, teams pitched up at 8am to a fantastic sunrise and ideal match racing conditions. Race officer Will Byrne cracked off 21 races to complete the round robin in impressive time. The top four teams — Mark Hassett, Brendan Lyden, Tom Fitzpatrick and Seafra Guilfoyle — proceeded to finals.
