‘Finding Saoirse’ – ladies 1720 report

An NYC ladies team recently entered for the 1720 Europeans held in Dun Laoghaire from 16-18 June.
The team are a group of NYC sailing mums who are more normally to be found shoreside, organising junior coaching and racing. They are part of a larger group of mums who regularly sail on the team club boats.

The skipper and team organiser was Fiona Staunton. Fiona is an experienced sailor but the crew were of varying levels of experience and none had prior experience of sailing 1720s. In March, the goal was set for the Europeans Championships, we chartered NYC1, which we have since re-baptised ‘Finding Saoirse’ as it initially proved to be an impossible task, and began to train.

NYC Regatta 2016 – Commodore’s Report & Results

Our 2016 Regatta which is the highlight of our Sailing Calendar, proved to be a most successful and enjoyable event both on and off the water. We had a record number of boat entries at 180, which was very encouraging considering we would have lost some boats and crew to the Round Ireland Race.
We were blessed with the weather considering the Friday before and the very wet Sunday, and we had perfect sailing conditions for all courses. The feedback from the race courses was very positive and this was the first time that we ran two back to back races on Course A, and this format worked very well and was welcomed and praised by the sailors.

Optimist Connachts 2016 – Report

The Optimist Connachts took place in the Foynes Yacht Club on Saturday 11 th June and Sunday 12 June.

16 young sailors from the NYC took part in this event.

Conor Gorman, Fiona Ferguson, Georgia Mc Carthy, Leah Rickard, Natasha Hemeryck, Nathan Van Steenberge and Hugh Turvey entered Senior Fleet.

Clementine Van Steenberge, Clodagh Malone, David Corcoran, Ella Dempsey, Luke Turvey, and Zoe Hall entered Junior Fleet.

Billy Mc Carthy, Conor Staunton and Sam Ledoux entered Regatta Fleet.

Golf Timsheet Friday 17th June

Our last outing before the summer break is on Friday, to the magnificent O’Meara Course in Carton House. We are told that the course is in magnificent condition, so no excuses this time guys.

Back to NYC for supper, a few nightcaps and distribution of magnificent prizes.

Harbour Heritage Day – Thursday 16th June

The Commodores of all the Dun Laoghaire Clubs have agreed to nominate Thursday 16th June (Bloomsday) as Harbour Heritage Day. This will be used as a fundraising day and an opportunity for sailors to show their support & contribute to the costs for the Cruise Berth Appeal.
