Biggest racing trimaran ever built on its way to Round Ireland Record Attempt!

LATEST NEWS: SPINDRIFT 2 ABANDONS ROUND IRELAND RECORD ATTEMPT DUE TO BAD WEATHER

 The legendary maxi trimaran Spindrift 2, the largest racing trimaran ever built (ex Banque Populaire V; LOA: 131ft, Beam: 75 ft, Mast: 137ft, Disp: 20.5T) is on its way from its Brittany base ‘La Trinite sur Mer’ to attempt to break the Round Ireland Speed Record currently held by MOD70 ‘Phaedo 3’ in  36 hours and 52 minutes, approximately 1h 45mns faster than the previous record.

The weather conditions are lining up nicely in the next 24h to 72h with a low pressure system centered on Ireland generating a perfect anti-clockwise system to beat the record.

NYC Cadet Clare Gorman in Top Ten at Laser 4.7 Worlds

Clare is off to a great start having posted a ten and a four to be tenth overall in the Ladies division of the Laser 4.7 team sailing in the World Championships which began yesterday in Nieuwpoort, Belgium.

The week–long event will consist of 12–races with 350 sailors from around the world.

We wish her all the best for the reminder of the event!

As our Junior Regatta started today with the Launching for both fleets scheduled to commence at 10:00hrs.  The Harbour Fleet took to the water at 10:45 and the Main Fleet at 11:15.  Please see our amazing galleries in the full post

Irish Laser 4.7 team

Good luck to the Irish Laser 4.7 team sailing in the World championships which begin today in Nieuwpoort Belgium. The week- long event will consist of 12 races with 350 sailors from around the world.participating.  NYC member Clare Gorman is pictured on the far right.

Volvo Dun Laoghaire regatta
