NYC Golf Society – Woodenbridge Report
Golf Outing 10th May 2013.
It rained in Dun Laoghaire, it rained in Arklow, it rained a few miles up the road but the sun shone on the NYC Golfers in Woodenbridge.
What a great day and a great course. Tee off was at 2.30 and everybody was on time ready to tear the course apart. The big hitters, Roger Bannon and Adam Winkelmann were on the first team out, but neither appeared on the sheet in any form.
The longest drive was none other than Tony Corcoran who is better known for his short puts than long driving. Nearest the pin was Joe Hogan whose modesty in acceptance of his achievement was unbecoming.
The big men’s prize of the day was Francis Hanratty with 37 points. An early starter, he had an anxious wait to see if anybody came near him, but he pipped Joe Cooney and Alan Dooley by one shot, Joe coming second with a better back nine.
The best of the Ladies was Roni Dunn with a great 33 points followed by Bernice McCarthy with 29 points. Best team score was won by John Westman, Seamus Moran and Ted McCourt with an outstanding 97 points.
It was an outstanding day, thanks to the Woodenbridge staff who made us all very welcome, and to all who participated to make it a great event.
