Wednesday evening Nippers (6-10 year olds) – Registrations now open!

The Junior Committee is delighted to announce that we will be once again be running the very popular Nippers course in May and June 2022.

The Nippers course is based on the ISA’s Cara na Mara programme. Our lead instructor is SI Cillian Madigan who has instructed the Cara na Mara curriculum in previous years.

It is a programme designed for young children aged 6-10 who have not yet had any, or very little, experience sailing. The programme is focused on building confidence on the water and teaching the basics of water safety. The emphasis is on fun!

The NYC will run 6 sessions on Wednesdays (Dates 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th May, 1st and 8th June) 5.30-8pm (on water by 6pm).
The cost per child is €130 which includes the Cara na Mara work book (€10).

We will have one additional date (15 June) in hand in case of bad weather.

    • Inform and brief instructors of development within the sport;
    • Review instructors own personal skills and knowledge.

This is done by:

  • Shorebased briefing and administration;
    • Review of shorebased knowledge and waterbased skills;
    • Instuctors delivering sessions with peer / Trainer review.

Each workshop has 6 places and is run by an Irish Sailing Instructor Trainer.

Hal Sisk, Steve Morris and Fionan de Barra Awarded International Classic Boat Recognition in London

Hal Sisk of Dun Laoghaire has tonight (Tuesday) received the International Classic Boater of the Year Award in London for his decades of inspired service to classic craft and sailing history, while his colleagues Fionan de Barra of Dun Laoghaire and Steve Morris of Kilrush Boatyard were also personally awarded – at a ceremony in the Royal Thames Yacht Club – for their exceptional work in the trio’s current shared project, the restoration of the Dublin Bay 21 Class.

Hal Sisk’s involvement with classic craft – which includes his current role as Chairman of the International Association of Yachting Historians – came after an active offshore racing career. He was one of the creators fifty years ago of ISORA in 1971-72, while his first significant vintage project was the restoration of the 1884-vintage Fife cutter Vagrant in 1984.
