Junior Sailing Update

Registration for Summer Courses will be open on 4th May, however in accordance with government guidelines we can now also do some coaching in May.
 
We are going to do coaching for our younger members (7-9year olds) on Wednesday evenings and optimist Regatta and Main fleet sailors on Friday evenings. All other groups will be looked after from June onwards.

National Yacht Club Celebrate 150th Annual Awards Held Online

Thanks to modern technology and the can-do spirit of the Club’s volunteers and staff, the NYC held its Awards ceremony online.

Commodore Martin McCarthy told Afloat “We had a lot to reflect on and celebrate – it being our 150th year and Covid 19 year – a year where survival was winning. We thank every winner as they all joined in and shared their thoughts and insights with fellow members. It was inspiring”.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown’s first Citizen, Cathaoirleach Una Power joined the NYC for the online event. Among the items she addressed was the year ahead and she said: “I encourage you to keep the Junior Training going as best you can within the Regulations. Also, I know you have a strong Inclusion programme and I would urge you also to keep a focus on it this year. We hope the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta and other events can proceed during the summer and that all sectors can get on the water and lay the foundation stones for a fully normal season with international events in 2021. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners tonight – and also you, the members of the National Yacht Club, for your contribution to sailing and well being of citizens and the Borough of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown”

The Awards process was run by Sailing Sec. Alan Balfe and his team and every club member were entitled to nominate fellow members, which led to the final selection of the winners:

Junior Summer Courses UPDATE

The National Yacht Club are making preparations to run clinics for our junior members from June until August 2021. Last year we learnt how to deal with Covid 19 and provided successful clinics for all of our young members. We have learnt a lot and plan to do things much better this year. 

We plan to offer clinics in start sailing, basic skills, improving skills, advanced boat handling, start racing, kites and wires (using club wayfarers and ventures), team racing (using our club fireflies), feva clinics and adventure clinics. We also plan to run optimist and laser racing clinics with our advanced racing coaches throughout the summer. 
We will have optimists, toppers and FEVAs to charter for members who want to try out a different boat over the summer. 

We will keep you updated, but please be reassured that we are planning a wonderful summer for you all at the National Yacht Club.

Provisional dates for Summer clinics in the NYC.

Course 1 – 7th June – 18th June (10 days)
Course 2 – 21st June – 1st July (9 days due to VOLVO regatta)
Course 3 – 5th July – 16th July (9 days due to VOLVO regatta)
Course 4 – 19th July – 30th July (10 days)
Course 5 – 2nd August – 13th August (10 days)

We will be advertising and taking bookings for the clinics on a month by month basis rather than for the whole summer at a time. This is because things are constantly changing with the pandemic with regards to what we are allowed to do according to government regulations and what events are going to be allowed to happen. Please be reassured that we will be organising as much as we possibly can for the whole summer for your sailors. We will plan to allow people book on line the 1st week of May for the clinics commencing 7th June onwards.

The famous NYC Table Quiz is starting again this Wednesday (24th March) for an extra 3 weeks.

So time to register your team below if you haven’t done so yet!!

After registering, you will receive an email from Quiz Organiser Larry Power, containing information about joining the Quiz using the Zoom Webinar platform.
