Dublin Bay 21 Footer’s Homecoming

The 21’s will berth at the NYC at c 1800hrs Friday 30th when there will be a short welcome gathering. With Covid-19 restrictions we are limited to a strict 200 persons on the platform. Access to NYC card holding members and invited guests only. We look forward to the return of the historic Dublin Bay 21 Foot class that have been such a part of our club’s heritage.

Optimist Connaught Championships Report

Lough Ree Yacht Club hosted the 2021 Connaught Championships on a hot sunny but not so breezy two-day event. Still conditions proved challenging for all competitors with only two races being run on Saturday and luckily a fresh afternoon breeze on Sunday allowed them to get a third race in and finish on five races. At the top of the leader board in Senior Fleet Ava Ennis repeated her performance from the Leinsters, taking third place on Saturday and a second-place finish on Sunday to finish fourth overall in a 49-boat fleet. Strong performances in senior fleet were also seen from Maria Butler and Theo Madigan who endured and finished the two-day event.  In Junior fleet three NYC Sailors performed well in the changing conditions, Jonathan Dempsey, Louise Hanley and James Gorman. Well done all sailors and next up the National Championships at Lough Derg Yacht Club.

Finally, many thanks to Lough Ree Yacht Club for hosting such a fantastic event and we hope to visit your fine facilities again soon.

Adult Summer Laser Coaching Sessions – Saturday Mornings August / September

The NYC is staging Laser coaching for adults of all ability (from new or returning to Laser sailing to experienced sailors) on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 13:00 for 6 weeks: From Saturday 21st August until Saturday 25th September

The cost is €120pp
The coach is James Delaney

Note: You must have your own boat and be a member of the National Yacht Club to register!

Maximum 12 participants on a first come first served basis!!!

Laser Connaught Championships Report

Wexford Harbour boat and tennis club hosted the 2021 Connaught laser Championships on two very hot and sunny days with light breezes proving challenging for sailors.

Forty-six boats raced in the 4.7 Laser division, the largest seen for many years and the club was represented by 4 sailors, Christian Ennis, Ella Dempsey, Michael Byrne and Caoimhe Seymour.
A strong finish on Sunday saw both Christian Ennis and Ella Dempsey finish in positions, 7th and 12th respectively. This event is the final racing opportunity and warm up before the 4.7 Worlds which is being hosted from the NYC and in conjunction with the RSGYC in Dunlaoghaire.

The Club will be represented by four of our 4.7 sailors, Christian, Ella, Dylan DeVreeze and Michael at the event and we wish them well.

Davy NYC Junior Regatta

The National Yacht Club Junior Section hosted their annual Junior Inter-club Regatta on Wednesday 14th July, sponsored by Davy. We had a beautiful sunny day with perfect wind for racing. There were 90 boats entered, with 109 sailors participating between the Harbour Fleet and the Main Fleet.

Mairéad Ní Chúlahan ran two fantastic trapezoid races for the Main Fleet of 50 boats in Scottsman’s Bay, while Ken Dumpleton ran three tremendous races for the 40 boat Harbour Fleet! We are extremely grateful to all of the volunteers that helped throughout the day, and especially Davy for their tremendous support. 

The National Yacht Club was delighted to host this regatta for its own sailors, as well as sailors from Bray Sailing Club, the DMYC, the RStGYC, and the RIYC. It was amazing seeing such excitement amongst the sailors from each club. The Regatta finished off with a prize giving, followed by a Teddy’s Ice Cream for all involved!
