Optimist Ulster Report

The Optimist Ulsters took place in the Malahide Yacht Club Broadmeadows on Saturday 2nd July and Sunday 3rd July.

20 young sailors from the NYC took part in this event.

Conor Gorman, Leah Rickard, Nathan Van Steenberge, Hugh O’Connor, Eoghan Turner, Hugh Turvey, Louis Marie Jullo and Ellen Madigan entered Senior Fleet.

Clementine Van Steenberge, Clodagh Malone, Ella Dempsey, Luke Turvey, Zoe Hall, Sophie Gorman, Sam Ledoux and Rachel Flood entered Junior Fleet.

Benjamin Reeser, Conor Staunton, Edward Dempsey and Pierce Malone entered Regatta Fleet.

Dear Vice-Commodore,

Please forgive my delay in writing this letter but as my brother, who lived in the country, died in May

certain things had to be put on the back burner. He had been very ill for some time so in a way,

while very sad, it was a release from terrible pain.

We owe a huge debt of thanks to the Members of the National Yacht whom, together with some of

our personal sailing friends reached our target of €40k for our “Get Finn to Rio campaign” Finn was

able to send personal cards to all whose names Oonagh had received with their contributions.

NYC to host Laser Leinster Championships – 16th & 17th July 2016

Annalise inspires our juniors

Thurs afternoon saw Annalise Murphy talk to the juniors on our second summer course. She spoke of all her sailing adventures from an early age, beginning in mirrors and Optimists and taking her now to her laser and moth.

She spoke about her travels with sailing, including her nine trips to Rio, New Zealand in her leaving cert year and the challenges of travelling with her moth!

 

 

NYC Duo Sean Craig & Alan Green win F15 Southern Championships

As usual Dunmore East didn’t disappoint at the weekend with great Flying Fifteen racing in this picturesque village as well as fantastic hospitality. The winds held steady and a full programme of races was completed with Sean Craig & Alan Green (NYC) winning the event in Frequent Flyer after a consistant series of results from David Gorman & Chris Doorly (NYC) in second and Andy McCleery & Colin Dougan (KYC) in third. Sailability Course at the NYC

Anyone who has been around the Club this week will have seen our Sailability sailors enjoying the fine weather sailing their Hansa Dinghies and 2.4s.  We have had six children here all week between the ages of 11 to 20.   Some of them who have racing experience spent as much time as possible in the 2.4 s training for the Presidents cup in Kinsale later in the summer as part of the Leinster Team.
