Club Security & Visitor Signing in

Clubs are especially vulnerable to theft, as there is a lot of coming and going, especially at Regatta time and on sailing days.

Over the years, we have had a number of these incidents and they can be minimized by following a few procedures

1.   Ensure the front door is locked, except when we have a doorman in duty.

2.   Never leave the main side gate open for any duration – this is an open invitation to robbers

3.   Sign in visitors. This is a useful habit which will make more difficult for an unaccompanied intruded to break in.

4.   Be aware of suspicious behaviour, especially at very busy times in the club when we are most exposed. Report it to the Manager on duty.

5.   We have CCTV, lockers, card access locks and other defences, but sensible vigilance will go a long way to keeping our members belongings, club treasures, and boats, safe and secure.

 

Mark Laying Course – Saturday 20th May

The National Yacht Club is organising a Basic Mark Laying Course on Saturday 20th May for all RIB drivers (instructors, parents) currently helping out running our events.

NYC Mark Layer extra-ordinaire Mal Nowlan will share part of his in-depth knowledge on what to expect from a Race Officer and how to quickly and efficiently lay a small racing course. A National Powerboat  Certificate and a good level of confidence driving a RIB  are a pre-requisite.

Costs are left at a minimum to defray petrol & encourage participation for this up-skilling course.  Register Here

NYC Junior Section Golden Jubilee 2017

To mark the Golden Jubilee of the NYC Junior Section which was founded in May 1967, the NYC will host a weekend of celebrations on Saturday May 20th & Sunday May 21st 2017.

The Festivities will kick off with a reunion dinner for those who were members of the Junior Section between 1967 and 1972 on Saturday. On Sunday there will be a family fun day with a number of sailing races held in front of the clubhouse featuring past and present junior parents, members, and organisers. As well as sailing there will be a BBQ and plenty of fun activities ashore – a day for all NYC members and families to enjoy…

Visit Clipper Round the World Yacht ‘Hummingbird’

The Clipper 70 ‘Hummingbird’ which will take part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race (more info here: https://clipperroundtheworld.com/) starting from Liverpool in 107 days will be paying a visit to the National Yacht Club on Friday 5th May.

 Skipper Rachael Sprot has offered viewings of the boat to our members between 5pm and 7pm.

 No doubt such a yacht and tales of its crew will inspire our young racers taking part in the Friday Night Series…and their parents!

Update on the Second Topper Traveller

The Second Topper Traveller took place in Rush Sailing Club last weekend .Six sailors from the NYC took part they were Hugh O’Connor ,Natasha Hemeryck ,Jack Hall , Deirdre Turner Eoghan Turner and Caoimhe Seymour.
