Entries now open for the Ulster’s

The first event of the IODAI 2018 calendar is the Ulster’s.  This year we are delighted to have the event hosted by Malahide Yacht Club.

The Ulster’s are taking place over the weekend of May 19th & 20th.

Entries are now open for the Ulster’s and we would encourage you to enter as soon as possible.

  • Entry for the Ulsters is €60:00 and the early entry fee closes at 10pm (sharp) on Friday 4th From May 4th the fee goes up to €120:00
  • Final closing date is Wed 9th May, at 10pm sharp
  • Open to: Regatta Fleet/ Snr Fleet/ Jnr Fleet

Update on The Traveller in the RNIYC

Congratulations to Hugh O’Connor and Natasha Hemeryck who came first and second respectively at the Traveller in the RNIYC on Sunday 29th April. Conditions were very good with a consistent breeze and plenty of sunshine and a strong fleet of 48 sailors from all over the country.

Finn Lynch Eyes Top Ten at Sailing World Cup in Hyeres

NYC Olympic Laser sailor Finn Lynch continues to master further challenges in Hyeres as light winds dominated the third day of competition at the Sailing World Cup Series. The 22–year–old has moved up to 13th overall and is now only six points off the top ten overall in his 68–boat fleet.

Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft

A new and revised Code of Practice for the Safe Operation of Recreational Craft booklet was published by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in November 2017.

The Code of Practice is a valuable source of information, advice and best practice operational guidance for owners, masters, operators and users of a range of pleasure and recreational craft operating in Irish coastal and inland waters.  It also includes updated information on relevant legislation that applies to recreational craft and should be of interest and benefit to our Club members.  For more detail on the content and structure of the Code of Practice, please see Marine Notice No. 9 of 2018 which is available on the Department’s website here.
A useful Checklist of Basic Safety Requirements and Advice can be found on page 5 of the Code and is also attached as an Annex to the Marine Notice.

All recreational craft users are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Code and to heed the safety advice and recommendations including the need to take personal responsibility for their actions on the water.

Friday Night Optimist Training (Minors, Pre-racing & Start Racing levels)

The NYC Junior Section is delighted to be able to offer coaching for Optimist Sailors on Friday evenings during April, May and June.

We are offering coaching for three groups of sailors, depending on your child’s experience. Please read the descriptors carefully to ensure you book in for the right level.

Dates: The course runs for 9 weeks on Friday evenings from 17.00-19.30 to coincide with the Friday race training. The course starts on Friday 27th April and ends on Friday 22nd June.
