Update on the Optimist Trials 2017 Ballyholme

The Optimist Dinghy Irish team trials took place in Ballyholme Northern Ireland over Easter. Sixty two pre-qualified sailors from all over Ireland took part with the ambition of achieving a place on an IODAI (International Optimist Association of Ireland) supported Irish sailing team. 12 sailors from the National Yacht club participated. They were: Conor Gorman, Luke Turvey,  Leah Rickard, Hugh Turvey, Nathan van Steenberge, Charlie Cullen, Hugh O’Connor, Sam Ledoux, Eoghan Turner, Louis-Marie Jullo, Clementine van Steenberge and  Zoe Hall. They all trained very hard over the winter in Dun Laoghaire and some travelled to the UK, Holland and Spain in preparation for this important event.

National Nippers 2017

THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL

Come and try some fun sailing, no boat needed.  Starting on Wednesday 24th of May for 6 weeks (until 28th June) and running from 1730 to 1930.

The course is available to children of family and full members only.

IF spaces are available, we will open it to potential members at the beginning of May as their one course to try (once per family). There will be an additional charge for these courses.

We are following the Cara na Mara programme with their colourful work books.  There will be two groups, Otters for new beginners and Seals (only if Otters has been obtained).  We have a maximum of 30 places.

ISA Youth Nationals Ballyholme 2017

Topper Report

The Isa Youth Nationals took place in Ballyholme last weekend.The Event was hosted from Thursday the 20th April to Sunday the 23rd April.

Each evening there was a talk by one of Ireland’s leading sailors/coaches – on Wednesday – Bill O’Hara, Thursday – Annalise Murphy, Friday – Olympian Matt McGovern d Saturday – Ross Killian and Russel McGovern.

Four NYC sailors competed in the Topper event. Natasha Hemeryck, Jack Hall, Deirdre Turner and Caoimhe Byrne.

There were 32 competitors and 7 races in total.

Update on 420 Sailing in the NYC

Sixteen 420 sailors took part in a two-day open training clinic over Easter in preparation for the Youth Nationals.

Six NYC sailors competed in the Youth Nationals in Ballyholme Yacht Club from 20th to 23rd April 2017. Heather Spain, Iseult Kneafsey, Dara Donnelly, Cliona Coyle, Nicola and Fiona Ferguson represented the club at this highly competitive event…

ISA Junior Seminar, 6th &7th May 2017

Applications now open for the next ISA Junior Seminar, 6th & 7th May 2017.

Ross Killian, ISA Academy Coach, will lead the second set of ISA Junior Seminars, taking place at the Sport Ireland Institute of Sport, Abbotstown, Dublin 15. The sessions are open to young sailors and their parents to learn about the variety of factors impacting their sailing performance, and to introduce the ISA Performance Pathway programme.

The seminars will include lifestyle and performance topics such as clinical nutrition, sport psychology, physiotherapy, strength and conditioning.
