Junior Dinner & Annual Prizegiving Review and Roll of Honour

The NYC Junior Dinner was held on Friday 11th March at the club for the Summer of 2021, delayed by events.   The turnout was impressive with 80 Junior Sailors in the dining room, with a three course dinner, and 40 parents bunkering safely below in the JB room.

Later in the evening, parents joined the Junior Sailors upstairs, whereupon a huge number of prizes were awarded to great applause, celebration, flashlight and smiles. 
There was an impressive array of silverware, with notable club names winking from past etching.  There was also an array of prizes from the new Junior Merchandising – hoodies, jackets, hats, neck warmers – launched specially on the evening.

The prizes were broadened out at this event to celebrate both the pursuit of competition or excellence and also seamanship and improvement – all worthy goals and achievements.
It was a wonderful warm night, timed perfectly timed to focus younger and older minds on the season ahead.

Shore person / beach master position for summer courses 2022

The National Yacht Club is currently seeking to recruit a shore person for summer 2022.

The role is relevant to any individual 17 or over with the required certification as follows: First Aid Certificate, Safeguarding Certificate and Garda Clearance. 

Job description:
The shore person will welcome the children and direct them into their respective groups in the morning, help launch and recover the sailors, Supervise the children at lunch time and be on land at all times to receive a child that needs to come to land unexpectedly.

 

The dates for summer courses 2022 are as follows. The summer sailing courses will be full days.

  • Course 1: 7-17 June 2022
  • Course 2: 20 June – 1 July 2022
  • Course 3: 4 July – 15 July 2022
  • Course 4: 18 – 29 July 2022
  • Course 5: 2 – 12 August 2022

Assistant instructors position 2022

The National Yacht Club is currently seeking to recruit a team of committed and enthusiastic Assistant Instructors for the 2021 summer sailing courses. 

Transition Year (TY) sailors who wish to apply for the position of Assistant Instructors at NYC over summer 2021 should complete the form below before midnight on 31st March 2022.

The role is relevant to any individual 16 or over with the required certification who has completed Transition Year and is interested in encouraging children to learn how to sail under the direct supervision of NYC instructors at all times. Assistant instructors are required to hold their Motorboat licence; First Aid cert; Safeguarding cert; Garda vetting cert (Note that only applications from sailors who have completed TY will be considered). 

This role is an excellent opportunity to learn from qualified coaches and instructors on how to lead and deliver sessions on training courses. Please be aware that this is a voluntary role only.

NYC Annual Junior Awards Dinner – Friday March 11th

The Highlight of the NYC Junior Social Calendar…Make sure your sailors don’t miss it!
Taking place on Friday March 11th. Dinner for the junior sailors at 7pm in the dining room. Followed by a prize giving at 8:30pm.
There will be a buffet dinner and a glass of wine for the parents in the JB room for €25. The dinner for the sailors is €15.

NYC Topper Spring Coaching 2022

The NYC is running Club coaching for Toppers every Sunday afternoon for 6 weeks starting on February 27th.
Max 16 partiticipants (split into 2 groups based on ability assessment from the instructors)

Time: 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Costs are €150 for the 6 sessions – Club Toppers available for charter (€80 for the 6 sessions)

In order to improve communication, the Junior Committee recently sent out the first issue of a regular email newsletter designed to inform on all matters for all sailors in all fleets in Junior Sailing.
