Nippers 2018 – Update

We have completed another year of nippers.  30 keen sailors aged 6-8 yrs old participated in this 6 week Cara Na Mara programme.  We had up to 10 helpers per week, club members aged 10-12 who sat in Club Optimists with the sailors and we would like to thank them for their support.

On the last night, we organised a trip to the lifeboat station where our young sailors learnt all about the fabulous work the volunteers do.  The parents and siblings met in the dining room for a meal to celebrate the end of the course.

Here are some photos from the last night, we look forward to seeing these junior sailors on the minor and full day summer courses in the coming months.

Thanks to Fiona Staunton & Neassa Dolan who organised this programme

Topper Northern Championship 16-17th June 2018 Update

Last weekend saw 4 of our National Topper Sailors competing at the Northern Championship in Cushendall Sailing Club Natasha Hemeryck, Hugh O’Connor, Eoghan Turner and Caoimhe Seymour. The club gave us a warm welcome and a superb two day event. Conditions were tricky with shifting winds, rain and strong tides. Our sailors did us proud with Natasha Hemeryck leading the pack, coming 5th after the first days sailing and moving up to Second place to take the Under 17’s Trophy on day two. Hugh O’Connor had a steady race coming 8th overall as did Eoghan Turner who finished 10th overall. Caoimhe Seymour was placed 3rd after day one in the 4.2 Rig and maintained this position to win the 3rd place trophy in the 4.2rig.

A huge congratulations to all our sailors and to Natasha and Caoimhe our trophy winners.

The next event is the Topper Nationals on the 6-8th July in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club.
