Irish Ulster Laser Championships Larne

Irish Ulster Laser Championships Larne

NYC was represented by Hugh O’Connor (4.7 Rig) and James Delaney (Radial) at the Irish Ulster Championships in Larne over the weekend (29-30th June).  Hugh O’Connor did a great race and came in 3rd position overall in the 4.7 Rig. Light Winds meant there was no races on Saturday despite great attempts to get one going. However, Sunday made up for it with plenty of wind enabling 4 races to be held. The next Laser Event is the Irish Leinster Championship on Sat 6th and Sun 7th July in Rush.

Patrick Hassett heads off to the World Para Sailing Championships in Cadiz, Spain

We would like to wish Patrick Hassett the very best of luck as he heads off to the World Para Sailing Championships in Cadiz this weekend. Patrick is a first year Engineering student in UCD and cadet member of the Club. He has been sailing since his early teens but within the last couple of years has been concentrating on racing in the 2.4mR class. In 2017 he travelled to Poland to train and compete in a youth European Parasailing event as part of the Irish squad.

This winter Patrick competed in the Frostbite Series in the PY class and has been training almost daily since he finished his College exams in May. He had an intense week long training last week in Dunlaoghaire with a number of the under 25s squad providing excellent match racing competition in a 2nd 2.4mR.  He will charter a boat in Cadiz and will receive coaching at the event organized through World Sailing. We wish him all the best over there and will be following his progress closely.
