MOD 70 Team Phaedo 3 Round Ireland Record Attempt

Following on the incredibly tight race between the 3 MOD 70s entered in the Wicklow SC Round Ireland where Oman Sail broke its own Round Ireland Record (as well as the other 2 boats), Team Phaedo 3 is back!

Taking their start today based on a favourable weather window (see here) allowing them to go round anti-clockwise, Team Phaedo 3 hopes to break the current record of 38 hours, 37 minutes and 7 seconds!

MOD70 Musandam Oman Sail sets sails to attempt Round Ireland Record this Monday 4th May

ETA  update (08:00 Wednesday morning) = 12:00…Deadline to beat record = 14:42…Margin for error = VERY SMALL

Following their aborted attempt back in March 2013, Musandam – Oman Sail, skippered by Sidney Gavignet is back with a crew of five this time in a bid to break the 20 year old Round Ireland record established by Lakota in 1993.

The current record is 1 day 20 hours 42 minutes and 20 seconds. The boat is expected crossed the start this Monday 4th May just after 18h00 and the hope is to shave off 10 hours from the previous record.

Round Ireland Yacht Race

WICKLOW SAILING CLUB recently announced that it will again host the ROUND IRELAND Yacht Race, one of Europe’s major yacht racing events, starting at Wicklow Harbour on 28th June 2014, for the 18th time since the biennial 705 mile non-stop race around of our island first took place in 1980.

Musandam Oman Sail calls off its Round Ireland Challenge

At 07:20 this morning, Sidney Gavignet, Skipper of Musandam Oman Sail informed us that though conditions were ‘almost right’, it was still unsafe to attempt their Round Ireland Record challenge.
