National Yacht Club

After a week of unseasonal weather, Sunday showed signs of improvement, and ultimately we had the perfect sailing day – sun, wind, and lots of smiles. Commodore Ronan Beirne was in attendance to welcome the families as they arrived in the NYC. We thank him for his genuine interest in the Junior section.

The third IODAI regional event of the year is the Connachts.  This year they are taking place over the weekend of July 15th & 16th in Waterford Harbour Sailing Club (WHSC), Dunmore East, Co. Waterford.

This weekend saw 38 sailors from all over Ireland competing in the Topper Southern Championships which was hosted by the NYC. Our Club was represented by Jack Hall, Nicholas Reeser, Eoghan Turner, Deirdre Turner, Caoimhe Seymour, Caoimhe Byrne, Ethan Spain and Ella O’Malley.

Forty-four sailors from across Ireland took part in the annual Vice President’s Trophy team racing event on Saturday in Howth Yacht Club under a cloudless sky. NYC sent one team (Nathan Vansteenberge, Louis-Marie Jullo, Sam Ledoux and Clementine Vansteenberge). The VP cup has become the premier team-racing event in Ireland for Optimist sailors and is managed in cooperation with IODAI to select teams for international team-racing events.

Best of luck to National Yacht Club sailors Hugh O’Connor and Zoe  Hall who headed off to Poland  yesterday as part of the International Development Team!
