The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta – Early Bird Ends 30th June

A significant new regatta is being held for the first time here in the the National Yacht Club, 17th and 18th August. The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta encourages women to jump on board and grab the helm or grab a sheet and race over 2 days in the magnificent waters of Dublin Bay.

Female helms currently stand out from the crowd in a male dominated sport, the aim is to change that in a relaxed fun event with a strong social program. The inspirational movie Maiden will be shown on Friday evening and Saturday night is party night.

All boats are welcome with separate race areas for dinghys and keel boats. Male crews are welcome up to a maximum of 50% on each boat. The race officials,  mark layers,  results – everything will be run by an experienced enthusiastic team of women from all over the country who have come together to make this inaugural event a real success.

Well Done NYC Volunteers on a Marvellous Volvo Dun Laoghaire to Dingle Race

The cadre of NYC volunteers who organised and ran last weekend’s wonderfully successful D2D race, deserve our thanks and praise.

Commodore Martin McCarthy noted and named the team at the Competitors briefing last Wednesday – and Vice Commodore Conor O’Regan praised their efforts when he attended the huge Prize giving dinner last Saturday in the Dingle Skelligs Hotel.

The Volvo Dun Laoghaire to Dingle Race was conceived by National Yacht Club stalwart, Martin Crotty and is now a major bi-ennial event under the able chairmanship of Adam Winkelmann.  This year’s event was dispatched off the East pier at 6pm on Wednesday 12th June 2019, and the first boats were crossing the finish line less than 25 hours later.

EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR NYC’S DUN LAOGHAIRE TO DINGLE RACE

The National Yacht Club’s Volvo Dun Laoghaire to Dingle race starts on the dot of 6pm this coming Wednesday, when a record fleet of 45 boats will cross the start line just outside the harbour mouth.

The biennial event was founded by our late trustee, Martin Crotty and continues under the able chairmanship of Adam Winkelmann.

Topping this year’s entry is the superyacht Wind Fall, which has been shipped across the Atlantic for the event by skipper Michael Cotter.

In the past the D2D entry was a mixture of cruisers and racers but on Wednesday the racing brigade will be to the fore.
