Thrilling Flying Fifteen Worlds will be NYC highlight of 2019

THRILLING FLYING FIFTEEN WORLDS WILL BE NYC HIGHLIGHT OF 2019

Containers are starting to arrive this week from Hong Kong and Australia with the first participating boats for the 2019 Flying Fifteen World Championships which we will host from September 1- 13th.

It is a great honour of the National Yacht Club to host this World’s and is only possible thanks to the generous support and sponsorship of Subaru Cars and others.

The Club hosted the World’s in 1992 and 2003 both of which boosted interest in the class and the National’s preeminent position as having one of the biggest and best F15 fleets in the world.

In 2003 Subaru Cars also sponsored the event so next Month’s World’s is the continuation of a long and successful association.

Update on the Pathfinder Women at the Helm

WELL DONE TO NYC “WOMEN AT THE HELM” COMMITTEE

Susan Spain and her Organising Committee ran a highly successful Irish Sailing Pathfinder “Women at the Helm” Regatta at the National Yacht Club at the weekend, which featured 61 boats and 200 sailors from around the country.

The event was the first of its type in Ireland – run under the auspices of Irish Sailing and its President, our own Jack Roy, with the purpose of encouraging women to take the helm.

Our speaker this month is John O’Keeffe a Criminologist who will be speaking on matters relating to criminology and forensic psychology.

Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta – 17th & 18th August

The National Yacht Club are delighted to host the first Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta, taking place on 17 & 18 August.  Around the country, women have been racing against each other for decades but this is the first time a regatta will be held at a national level. The Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm regatta is an opportunity for women to set a new goal and encourage a move from shore to boat, crew to helm or club event to regional event. Female helms currently stand out – let’s change that and encourage women to take the helm.

Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta

The National Yacht Club is delighted to have been selected to host the inaugural ‘Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta’ on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August 2019.

The NYC has been at the forefront of developing Women on the Water initiatives and boast a very active group of ladies racing regularly on our dinghies and sportboats Club boats.

The purpose of this event is to give all sailing women their own annual sailing goal and to set and encourage a move from shore to boat, crew to helm or club event to regional event.

NYC Junior Regatta – 24th July – Entries Now Open

The National Yacht Club is hosting its annual Junior Regatta on Wednesday 24th July.

Entry will be online only and will close at Midnight on Tuesday 23rd July 2019;

Entry Fee:
– €15 for single-handed boats
– €25 for 2-handed boats
Registration will take place on Tuesday 23rd July 16:30 – 18:30 and Wednesday 24h July 08:30 – 09:00 at the NYC Race Office. Competitors briefing 09:15 on July 24th

Launching for both fleets is scheduled to commence at 10:00hrs with the first warning signal for the Harbour Fleet at 10:45 and the Main Fleet at 11:15.
3 races are scheduled. There will be a free for competitors chicken nuggets & chips starting at 15:00 in the National Yacht Club, followed by prize giving. Then later on, an alcohol free Junior Disco from 19:00 to 21.30 (free for all competitors).
