Women at the Helm is back! SIA Partners Irish Sailing Women at the Helm Regatta – 27th & 28th August 2022

The National Yacht Club is delighted to once again host the Women at the Helm Regatta and looks forward to a great weekend’s celebration of women’s sailing on Dublin Bay – and some great fun back on shore in the social programme.

Women at the Helm is an annual sailing regatta for dinghy and keelboat racing, where all boats are helmed (captained) by women. Now in its third year, the event will take place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August 2022 at the National Yacht Club.

Women at the Helm encourages women into positions of leadership, and to set an annual sailing goal – it may be a move from crew to helm, first time entry into a national event, or simply from a role ashore onto a boat.   The aim is for women sailors to step up, lead the way, or support others to take the helm and be the best they can be, on and off the water.

Chris Moore Retires as DBSC Honorary Secretary – a message from DBSC Commodore Ann Kirwan

Dear Member,

On behalf of my fellow Flag Officers and the DBSC Committee, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Chris Moore who retired as DBSC Honorary Secretary of DBSC on Thursday June 30th.

Chris served on the DBSC Committee for more than thirteen years since he was elected as Rear Commodore at the AGM in November 2009. Chris served three year terms as Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore, and Commodore, followed by a further three and a half years as Hon. Secretary.

Chris has given tirelessly to DBSC, and sailing in general, for all of these years and we thank him for all his time, effort and guidance throughout. Prior to joining the DBSC committee as Rear Commodore in 2009, Chris had served as Commodore of Bray Sailing Club and Commodore of the National Yacht Club. I have worked closely with Chris since I joined the DBSC committee in December 2012 when Chris was elected as Vice Commodore. Chris’ wealth of knowledge and experience has been invaluable to us at DBSC.

Chris always manages to achieve a good balance between embracing progress and innovation while not losing sight of the traditions of Dublin Bay Sailing Club which are an important part of our 138-year history. It was during Chris’ tenure as Commodore that the Green Fleet was introduced, and it now forms a key part of our Saturday Racing Programme.
