Fiona Staunton of NYC talks Healthy Eating: Wednesday IS Winter Series

Although we’re all under Level 5 restrictions Irish Sailing is kicking off the Wednesday Winter Talk Series again with the aim of providing some fun and knowledgeable speakers to get you thinking about being active on the water (even though most of us can’t get back to the water yet).

The next talk is on Wednesday 13 January, 6-7pm and we’re turning our attention this time to healthy eating. Traditionally January is a time for planning, resolutions, and getting ready to be active on the water. And part of a day’s sailing is eating. We want to stay as fit and healthy as possible, but how do you do that when you’re on the water all day, or packing a lunchbox for someone else who is ? In this talk, Fiona Staunton, Ballymaloe trained chef and National Yacht Club sailor, will be taking us through what snacks to pack for an active day’s sailing, and how to make raw power bars. She’ll also be discussing how to boost your immune system by maintaining your gut health.

National Yacht Club Commodore Thanks Dun Laoghaire Harbour Clubs for Support of Sesqucentnnial Race Day

National Yacht Club Commodore Martin McCarthy yesterday presented a special flag to each of four neighbouring Clubs as a mark of Solidarity and to thank them for helping his Club hold a Raceday to celebrate the Club’s 150th anniversary.

Commodore McCarthy said, before a socially distanced, outdoor, audience, led by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Cathaoirleach Cllr. Una Power: “We are marking the formal announcement of the National Yacht Club’s Sesquicentennial Raceday which is the sailing highlight of this historic year for our Club. In a typical year, we would have a four-day Regatta with lots of parties and fireworks. It would have been one of the four Regattas hosted here in Dun Laoghaire – one by each of the waterfront Clubs.

Last May, it became clear that with Covid 19, everything has changed in the world – and the Sailing world.

NYC House Committee Presentation

“ Our Club House Committee wished to acknowledge and thank our Manager Tim O’Brien for all the work and commitment that he has given to the Club over the last 10 years and especially his support to the House Committee.

The House Committee have achieved significant progress over the past few years with the major refurbishment of the Club premises .  In addition there has been an ongoing maintenance programme in continuous operation which necessitated some major projects  in replacing heating and plumbing systems.

The members of the House Committee also worked closely with Tim in arranging the very successful Social events for the Club.

We know that Tim will be greatly missed by both members and staff and we would like to wish Tim every success for the future. “
