Fifteens Fly in Fingal – Report from Rush

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailrush_10_03Alan Dooley and Ken Dumpleton continued the good run of the Flying Fifteen Fleet by tying for first place in the men’s singles competition. Ann Irwin was the best of the ladies. Ann, Cathy Dooley, Rita Delany and Anne McQuaid won the team prize with a very impressive 41 points for the front nine. The handicap secretary, aided by Orla Fitzgerald of the Irish and Pat Martin of the DMYC, took the team prize for 18 holes. The Commodore, not for the first time, got nearest the pin and Ann Irwin embarrassed the men by taking the longest drive award. The real star of the show was Rush Golf Club. It was a cracking day, sunny and bright, and the views out from the course over Lambay and Howth were stunning, The course itself was a true example of links golf. Alan Dooley had billed it as a hidden gem and he wasn’t exaggerating on either count. It must be one of the best nine-hole courses around but was almost impossible to find, members of the National were to be seen traversing the highways and byways of this forgotten corner of North County Dublin. But now we know the way, we are sure to be back. On a less celebratory note we saw a lot of unrepaired pitch marks on greens, we are sure it wasn’t our group but always fix your own pitch-mark and one other nearby. Woodbrook is next up in March.
