NYC Golf Society – Member Survey Winter 2009

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailAmazingly people took this seriously and we now have a good picture of what the punters like and dislike. There was little support for a change in format, teams of four with a singles competition on a Friday afternoon is the current way of playing and according to the survey, it’s a firm favorite. There was a lot of interest in an away trip, there is no outing to Dingle this year, so your Committee is floating the idea of a trip to sunnier, warmer and drier courses in March. This depends on the response from the members. If a foreign trip doesn’t happen we could look at a trip around this rain-sodden island. As for the courses we played there was a surprise in store. Despite being difficult and on the Northside, St. Anne’s was the clear favorite amongst members. Dingle and Woodenbridge also scored very highly with Powerscourt leading the rest. We are hoping for return visits to these courses this year, with Dingle lying in wait in 2011. New for this year will be a trek into deepest Fingal to play Rush GC. Also being considered is a mid-summer evening outing, a 12-14 hole scramble with a BBQ back in the Club. A short winter outing in Elm Park proved popular and is likely to be repeated. There will also be, by overwhelming demand, a separate Ladies Golfer of the Year competition. One gentleman voted against this proposal, we know who it is. One suggestion was to introduce loyalty points for those who attend every outing, these are lost as soon as you win anything or don’t turn up. More details on this at the first outing. As for the important bit, food and wine, there was overwhelming satisfaction with the supper prepared by Cormac and his staff. So well done to all those working away in the kitchen. One individual asked for steak and chips at every meal which only goes to show you can’t keep everybody happy all the time. There were some bizarre results in the survey. Gardening proved as popular as sailing as an alternative to playing golf and nobody uses the noticeboard or the website for information about outings, e-mail and word-of-mouth being the preferred means of communication. Everybody thought that the membership fee of €25.00 was really good value yet less than ten people actually paid it.
