Optimist Ulsters 2015 – Report
16 main fleet sailors and 1 regatta fleet sailor from the NYC together with their families travelled down to Ballyhome for the 2nd regional event of the year. Clare Gorman, Nicola Ferguson, Ella Hemeryck, Luke Rickard, Natasha Hemeryck, Jack Hall and Deirdre Turner competed in the Senior fleet. Conor Gorman, Fiona Ferguson, Hugh O’Connor, Leah Rickard, Eoghan Turner, Nathan Van Steenberge, Georgie McCarthy, Zoe Hall and David Corcoran raced in the Junior fleet. Billy McCarthy sailed in the regatta fleet.
The first day was unfortunately a blow out and all racing was cancelled. On the Sunday, 3 races were completed. Tadgh Donnelly supported our sailors both on and off the water over the 2 days. All of our sailors sailed really well and were a credit to our club. On the Saturday evening, most of the NYC families enjoyed a BBQ in Ballyhome Yacht Club followed by football in the park close by. This gave a chance for parents and NYC families to get to know each other better.
Conor Gorman sailed really well and brought home 4th Gold in the Main fleet (Pictured left). Full results can be found on the IODAI website.
This was a great turn out of sailors from the NYC to the 2nd circuit event of the season. Well done everyone!
