There was yet more success for NYC sailors at the Laser Connachts last weekend (June 30th – July 1st) in Dunmore East when the two NYC sailors in the Laser Radial fleet scooped both top prizes . Finn Lynch completed a hat-trick of victories in the Regionals with yet another win to add to his wins in the Ulsters and the Leinsters while SiânKneafsey won the First Lady prize for the second time this season to add to her victory in the Laser Munsters. Finn demonstrated excellent form in the 6 races with 3 wins and 3 2nd places in the 24-strong radial fleet.Siân was very consistent finishing 8th overall in the mixed fleet comprehensively beating the next lady by 25 points . In the 4.7 fleet, Sarah Cooney sailed very well after her recent lay-off due to exams (Junior Cert) finishing 11th out of the 20-strong radial fleet. The event was held at the Waterford Harbour Sailing Club in Dunmore East with good winds over the two days varying from 10 to 20+ knots with a varying swell and chop conditions which are usually found in Dunmore East presenting a physical challenge for the Laser sailors. The hospitality was excellent with the club hosting BBQs on both Saturday and Sunday although the weather didn’t co-operate when the rain fell on Sunday evening making boat packing very wet! As always the social side of the Laser event was very enjoyable for sailors and support alike, both on and off the water. This event and result is excellent preparation for Finn as he is to represent Ireland in the Laser Radial at the ISAF World Youth Championships which is being held in NYC / RSGYC/RIYC in Dun Laoghaire later this month. It also is good preparation for Finn and Siân who havebothbeen selected to represent Ireland in the inaugural EUROSAF Youth European Championships in Aarhus, Denmark in August. Results
