A Clean Sweep for NYC Girls in the single handed classes at ISA Youth Pathway National Championships 2016 and Optimist Trials 2016 The first major youth sailing event of the year was held in Howth last weekend. NYC girls dominated bringing home all of the single handed first girl prizes. Nicole Hemeryck continues her strong form wining the girls Laser radial trophy with her sister Ella showing her talent in the Toppers and making a place for herself in the Hemeryck trophy cabinet with the first girl prize in that class. Heather Spain won the Laser 4.7 girls trophy and Fiona Ferguson was the top girl in the Optimist trials, a huge achievement. (A full report on the Optimist is included on a separate post). The boys too produced results with Hugh Perrette winning second place in the Laser 4.7 class. Other notable sailors include Clare Gorman who, in her first Laser 4.7 event, delivered consistent top 10 results over the event and Loghlen Rickard in the highly competitive fleet finished just outside the top 10. For the first time in a number of years NYC was represented in the 420 class and the experienced gained by these sailors will be used to deliver results in future events. The regatta attracted 192 entries across six classes, from all corners of Ireland (plus a visitor from Italy) and was held in varied conditions, challenging heavy and light weather skills. This event is used to select the ISA National Squads to represent Ireland at International events in 2016.
