Liam Shanahan is Named Irish Sailor of the Year 2015
Our heart felt congratulations to NYC member Liam Shanahan (and all his family) for receiving the most prestigious accolade of “Irish Sailor of the Year 2015” following online votes from his fellow sailors!
There was plenty for Irish sailing to celebrate last June, but the way in which the J/109 Ruth swept to victory in the
Dun Laoghaire to Dingle Race was an undoubted highlight — and certainly one worthy of our
Sailor of the Month award. As Winkie Nixon explained, it was a vindication of Liam Shanahan’s
‘family and friends’ sailing values, which would later see him retain the
ISORA crown. And it seems you agreed. After topping our readers poll, Liam has this afternoon been named Afloat Sailor of the Year 2015 at the
Irish Sailing Awards.
