2015 Volvo Gill Optimist British National & Open Championships Pwllheli, Wales
Four of our Junior Sailors, Leah Richard, Fiona Ferguson, Conor Gorman and Hugh O’Connor represented Ireland and the club with the Irish U12 Squad at the 2015 Volvo Gill Optimist British National & Open Championships which were held in Pwllheli Sailing Club, Wales form 25th-31st July. Twenty one races were sailed in all over 4 days in gusty, rainy conditions. After the first two championship days all four were successfully placed within the Gold Fleet for the final series. All were remarkable in their achievements and are to be congratulated for their persistence and hard work over the winter and during the championship. Claire Gorman and Natasha Hemrick also represented the club in the Senior Fleet. All sailors sailed really well and were a credit not only to the club but to the country. On the social side parents and family members had a great holiday despite the weather and had great fun at the BBQ on the Thursday night.
