5 Optimist sailors from the NYC get onto Irish Teams
Optimist Trials 2015:
11 sailors from the NYC travelled down to Crosshaven to compete in the Optimist Trails 2015. Our team of sailors, together with the George sailors with whom they trained with all winter, arrived early on the Wednesday for a practice sail. The racing commenced on Thursday and 13 long races were completed over the four days. Winds varied over the course of the competition from light and shifty to windy and still shifty.
Results:
– Clare Gorman achieved a place on the Worlds Team, which is a great achievement.
– Nicola Ferguson and Charlie Cullen got places on the European Team.
– Ella Hemeryck and Luke Rickard got places on the Development Squad.
Fiona Ferguson, Conor Gorman, Hugh O’Connor and Leah Rickard will be on the under 12-squad attending the UK Nationals.
Other sailors who competed from our club were Natasha Hemeryck and Charlie McCarthy. All our optimist sailors were fantastic and represented our club well.
