Lots of prizes for NYC sailors at the Optimist Leinsters
The Optimist Leinsters took place in the Royal Irish Yacht Club on Saturday 5
th July and Sunday 6
th July.
23 young sailors from the NYC took part in this event.
Dara Donnelly, Nicola Ferguson, Clare Gorman, Loghlen Rickard and Cillian Madigan entered the senior fleet. Charlie Cullen, Luke Rickard, Jack Hall, Conor Gorman, Fiona Ferguson, Leah Rickard, Hugh O’Connor, John Daly, and Charlie McCarthy entered the Junior fleet.
A record number of regatta fleet sailors from our club entered the event with some great results. Eoghan Turner, Georgie McCarthy, Matthew O’Brien Holohan, Zoe Hall, Deirdre Turner, Ella Dempsey, Emily Daly, Billy MCarthy and Sophie Gorman entered the Regatta fleet.
It was a challenging event for the sailors with very little wind and shifty conditions over the 2 days.
Dara Donnelly finished 2
nd place overall in the Senior fleet,
Jack Hall won 1
st Junior silver and Conor Gorman 2
nd Junior silver.
Eoghan Turner came 2
nd place overall in the Regatta fleet and won best under 11, Deirdre Turner won best under 12 prize, Zoe Hall best under 10, and Ella Dempsey best under 9.

All of our young sailors sailed really well over the 2 days. Our main fleet sailors were supported by our two coaches Tadgh Donnelly and Claudine Murphy throughout the event.
