Success for NYC Optimist Sailors at Irish Optimist Team Trials
Seven NYC sailor have earned their place on the Irish Optimist Team and Squad 2013 following completion of the annual Irish Optimist Team Selection at RCYC on Monday.This 16 race marathon event is held over six days in two venues, this year at Lough Derg YC and Royal Cork YC. The event was won by Jonny Durcan from RCYC and second place went to his twin brother Harry.
A total of nine NYC Optimist sailors completed the event for which they all qualified based on their Optimist results at a number of events in 2012.
Congratulations to Loghlen Rickard and Claire Gorman who qualified for the European Team to race in the European Championships in Hungary; to Heather Spain, Hugh Perrette and Dara Donnelly who qualified for the International Development Team to race in the French Nationals in Brittany and to Ella Hemeryck and Luke Rickard who qualified for the under 12’s Squad to race at the British Nationals in Largs.
Congratulations are due to Nicola Ferguson and Patrick Coyle both competing in this event for the first time who raced with great credit to themselves and their club.
