Great Results for NYC Opi Sailors at Crosbie Cup
Seven young NYC sailors travelled to the Crosbie Cup in Lough Ree on the 7th and 8th July. Nicola Ferguson, Clare Gorman, Luke Rickard, Leah Rickard and Helen Hudson entered the main fleet competition, while Fiona Ferguson and Conor Gorman entered the regatta fleet. There were 30 entrants in all for the main fleet and 27 for the regatta fleet.
The rain held off for the two days and we had steady winds of between 12-16 knots for both days. Ideal conditions for most optimist sailors.
Congratulations to Nicola who won the Crosbie Cup although it was a very close competition between her and Clare. Nicola won on a tiebreaker having three 1st place finishes, and Clare came 2nd. Luke was 7th, and Leah who placed 17th won the prize for the youngest sailor.
Well done to Helen Hudson for competing in her first main fleet event, completing all six races and placing 26th. Hopefully this will be her first of many events.
In the regatta fleet, Fiona Ferguson placed 8th and Conor Gorman placed 10th, with the young sailors all competing in 6 races.
This was yet another very successful event for NYC sailors and we wish them well for the rest of the season.
