Irish Youth Nationals at the NYC
Great Success for the NYC at the Youth Nationals
The 2011 Mitsubishi Youth Nationals held last weekend as a combined waterfront clubs event was deemed a great success! The NYC had a large number of Juniors entered and we were very well represented in the prizes as you will see below.
There were challenging sailing conditions with an easterly wind bringing large swells but the sailors managed all that came their way. The Chairperson of ISAF Fiona Kidd visited the event and was very pleased with our organisational infrastructure.
Next years ISAF Youth Worlds in Dun Laoghaire will be something we can all be proud of. The wonderful photos below which give you a sense of the tough racing conditions but also the smiles and fun that was had. This only could happen with all the help from our club members and staff who launched, rescued, fed and entertained the 300 sailors and their families for the four days!
The NYC did particulary well in this event. The following are the list of prize winners:
Our new Cadet member
Philip Doranwon the boys Radial ISAF place with Eoin Keller in 3rd place.
Georgina Corbett got 3rd place in the Girls Radial.
Finn Lynch got 3rd in the Boys 4.7.
Tadgh Donnelly got a 5th place, securing a new place on the ISA 4.7 Squad.
Sian Kneafsey got 1st place in the Girls 4.7 with
Emma Cooney getting 3rd place.
Conor Totterdell came 2nd in the Fevas.
Amy Lambert got 10th in the Toppers, securing a place on the ISA Topper Squad.
In the Opi Trials
Sean Donnelly got 2nd overall, securing a place on ISA Optimist Squad.
Evie Byrne was selected for the U12 Squad.
In the Opi Championship
Ross Quirke was 2nd in the Boys Section.
Oskar Cahill got 4th place. 15 NYC sailors entered so lots of up and coming talent!
