DBSC & RAYC To Discuss Merger in 2016

Two of Dublin’s leading yacht racing clubs are in talks over a possible merger in order to rationalise a crowded Dublin Bay yacht racing calendar.  Dublin Bay Sailing Club (DBSC) and the Royal Alfred Yacht Club (RAYC), whose origins date back to the late 1800s, have agreed to sit down and discuss the best way forward given the current ‘very crowded calendar…

Boathouse Closes over Festive Season

The Club Boathouse will be open until Sunday 20th December inclusive (until 1700) to facilitate 2 lifts post Turkey Shoot. It will then be closed until Monday 4th January.

The boathouse staff would like to wish all the Club’s members, their friends and family, a Very Happy Christmas and all the very best for the 2016 sailing season!

Launch ‘Josephine’ gets a new engine

A lot is happening in the boathouse this winter; following the tragic theft and loss of ‘Alva’, a suitable replacement is currently being sourced to second the Club’s current sole launch ‘Josephine’.

Meanwhile, ‘Josephine’ is being fitted with a new Yanmar 30bhp engine as her 12 years old Beta diesel engine had done its time and started to show serious signs of wear and tear.

Flying Fifteens & Friends Gather for Annual Prizegiving

The Flying Fifteen & friends annual dinner and prize giving took place at the National Yacht Club at the weekend. The class mustered over 90 for dinner with piano accompaniment Terry Brown who generously provided his talents for a donation by the class to the Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat.
Class Captain Ronan Beirne welcomed the guest of Honour Winkie Nixon of Afloat.ie, Georgina Nixon, Larry Power Commodore of the host club and Commodore Pat Shannon of Dublin Bay Sailing Club.

ISORA Celebrates 2015 Offshore Season at National Yacht Club

174 ISORA members and guests were treated to a very special evening to celebrate the 2015 season at the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire in the annual ISORA Avery Crest Prize giving and Dinner dance on Saturday evening 14th November. Rescue Drama on Final Day of NYC Frostbite Series

Sixteen Flying Fifteen’s took part in Saturdays racing where there was drama on the water when Joe Coughlin’s crew Ed Ruane had to be taken from the boat with a dislocated shoulder.  The drama unfolded on the reach in Race 2 when Joe himself fell overboard leaving Ed to fend for himself with the spinnaker still up in a force 4!
