Wine Supper Report – 24th November

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailOur second wine supper in November was on Wednesday 24th , and our guest speaker on this occasion was Noel Tymlin, Portfolio and Training Manager with Findlater Wine and Spirit Group. His choice of wines were from the Rhone region of France, and his tasting wines were a Crozes-Hermitage M.Chapoutier syrah red, and a white blanc, “Le Petite Ruche.” The white was a delightful fresh wine with light fruit undertones, and the red was a very pleasant medium bodied wine with a nice lingering after taste. The dinner as always was superb, starting with a lovely Hors D’oeuvres selection, followed by a very tasty and well flavoured Coq Au Vin. The meal was finished with a light and nicely flavoured desert. Noel gave us a very interesting talk on Northern Rhone wines, and he believes that given the right grapes, you can produce great wines. He described the particular attributes of growing grapes in this region, and as an example, referred to the presence of large boulders in the area, which absorb the heat during the day, and then release this heat slowly during the night. Our next wine supper evening will be on Wednesday 8th December, and our speaker will be John Wilson Irish Times wine writer. John will have suggestions and discuss wines suitable for the Christmas fare.
