National Yacht Club

15 main fleet sailors from the NYC together with their families travelled down to Kinsale for the first regional event of the year. Clare Gorman, Nicola Ferguson, Ella Hemeryck, Charlie Cullen, Luke Rickard, Jack Hall and Deirdre Turner competed in the senior fleet. Conor Gorman, Fiona Ferguson, Hugh O’Connor, Leah Rickard, Eoghan Turner, Nathan Van Steenberge, Zoe Hall and David Corcoran raced in the junior fleet. 6 races were completed over the 2 days. Winds varied form 10 to 20 knots. It was a great sailing event and enjoyed by all. Two coaches from our club, Tadgh Donnelly and Claudine Murphy supported our sailors both on and off the water over the 2 days. We had 5 sailors from the NYC for whom this was their first main fleet event. They all sailed really well and despite long days on the water, they never gave up. Well done Deirdre, Eoghan, Nathan, Zoe and David. On the Saturday evening Rebecca Hall and Clodagh O’ Connor organised a dinner for the NYC families in one of the local eateries in Kinsale. This gave a chance for parents and NYC families to get to know each other better. We had great results in both fleets. In the senior fleet we had 4 NYC sailors in the top 10, with Clare Gorman winning a prize for 5th place in the Gold fleet. Jack Hall received a prize for 3rd Silver in the senior fleet. In the junior fleet, Fiona Ferguson received 2nd Silver and Leah Rickard received 3rd Silver. Full results can be found on the IODAI website. This was a great turn out of sailors from the NYC to the 1st circuit event of the season. Well done everyone!
