Baltimore 2015

10 families from the NYC went down to Baltimore in West Cork last week for the IODAI optimist-training week. It was a huge success and the 16 optimist sailors from our club got out sailing every day. There were over 150 optimist sailors from all over Ireland at this training clinic. The weather was mixed and rather windy, but this did not deter the sailors who were keen to learn from the coaches. There were 3 fleets: regatta, junior main and senior main fleet. The sailors had 5 days of coaching followed by a fun regatta on the final day. Rebecca Hall organised a dinner for all the parents and sailors from the NYC in Casey’s Hotel on the first night. This gave everyone a chance to meet fellow members and enabled our children to socialise too. There were lots of social activities arranged for the sailors in the evenings: pizza night, movie night and a disco evening. I can’t think of a better way to spend the February mid-term break!
