Superb Success for Finn Lynch – IRL Olympic Qualifier Place
NYC’s Finn Lynch is a step closer to fulfilling his dream of representing Ireland in Rio 2016 after earning a second Laser Standard nation place at Spit Olympic week in Croatia. Lynch’s tenth overall result puts two Irish Lasers on the start-line at the Olympic qualifier in Santander, Spain this autumn.
You will all remember in 2012 his ISAF silver medal in Dun Laoghaire. He joins London 2012’s James Espey with the aim of qualifying Ireland for Rio at the first opportunity this September.
He more recently showed in 2013 the depth of his ambition when he took Laser European honours in NYC, winning bronze in the Men’s Radial Worlds, silver in the Europeans and gold in the U21 category. The 17-year-old from Bennekerry County Carlow sailed consistently throughout that 12 race regatta with nine top-five finishes, including two race wins.
Finn is deservedly out Cadet of the Year 2013, having received his trophy at our NYC Sailing Awards Dinner in March 2014.
We wish him all the best in his quest to become Ireland’s Mens Laser representative in Rio 2016!
