Flying Fifteens all geared up for start of season
New boats and new crew combinations for new season.
With the new season about to start the Flying Fifteen fleet have a full programme in place both domestically and internationally.
The Dun Laoghaire fleet, captained by Nicki Matthews and whom Kia kindly sponsor again this season, continues to expand with a number of new boats in the fleet including Dave Mulvin, Dave Gorman and Gerry Donleavy as well as some crews upgrading their boats, Niall & Nicki Meagher and Chris Doorly & Alan Green. Others are still looking around to upgrade so watch this space. We also have some boats in the DMYC for the first time in many years.
Competition is sure to be fierce in Dublin Bay and current National champions Ian Mathews and Keith Pool may not have it all their own way with some of the new crew combinations, Last season’s Thursdays winners Niall Colman & Mick Quinn and Saturday Series winner Alan Green will again be pushing for honours, they will be pushed hard by Tom Galvin in , the Meaghers, word is that Joe Coughlin has hooked up with Andrew Marshall and we believe that Tom Murphy has a brazilian. As last season the class will continue to organise training sessions for all levels, there is a planned open day and Family day with BBQ that all are welcome to attend.
The class are also forging links with Bray and Greystones where they hope to participate in the local regatta with the view of holding regional events at these venues in the future. The regional events take place in some of the most beautiful places in the country, Carlingford, Cushendall and Dublin Bay with the Championships of Ireland taking place in Portaferry, Strangeford Lough in August, there is no excuse not to travel to these places. The events this year count as a qualification for the next World Championships which take place at Hyeres in the south of France in 2015.
In what is sure to be a fantastic event the European Championships take place at the Royal Club Nautica Pollenca in Mallorca in September. A transporter has been organised so if you are interested book early as it sure to be a popular trip. For more information visit our website
