NYC Lasers Dominate DMYC Frostbite Series

FacebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailCahill & Harding The DMYC frostbite series for Lasers concluded last weekend with a nail biting finish between Richard Harding and David Cahill, both of whom are members of the National. The series ran from the 3rd November right up to the 23rd March and consisted of 18 very well managed races. Conditions ranged from a partial drifter right the way up to two races where F7/8 gusts were recorded. Helms were tested both physically and mentally and competition was tight across the fleet with five different helms recording race wins. Going in to the final weekend, Cahill led the series by 2 points from Harding. Conditions were perfect for the last race with a blustery force 4 coming out of the north west. The race officer set his usual trapezoid course and the fleet had one final battle for the best pin-end start. The fleet was tightly bunched up the first beat but it was Harding who rounded first from Dwyer and a significant group containing Cahill, Elmes and Hodgins. Despite some scares caused by big gusts Harding extended to win the final race, taking his tally of first places to 6, but it was Cahill, taking second place in the final race, who demonstrated the greater consistency to take the series overall. At the prize giving afterwards, all agreed that the Laser Frostbite had been extremely well run, and was very competitive with 42 entries and at least 15 out each week. Well done to David Cahill on his win, and all who made the series such a success.
