(Cancelled) Sail Spree – May 5th 2013
Sail Spree is the annual event, encouraged by the ISA, and designed to get new people into enjoying water sports. NYC is participating in this in 2013, and needs your help to make it a success.It will happen on the morning of Sunday May 5th (bank holiday weekend).
For keelboats, there will be a cruise / race down to Killiney Bay and back, and for dinghies, a course in the harbour, possibly with relays, or a sprint race out into the bay if weather / numbers dictate. The emphasis will be on safe fun at all times.
Important note re Sail Spree:
NYC are planning this ISA event as a way of encouraging new people into sailing, and into the sailing club scene. Please use this opportunity to ask your friends, work colleagues, contacts, extended family to come to the club and give sailing a try…or a re-try.
The event is free to all, but needs your support.
Date: Sunday 5th May at 9:30.
Duration: 3-4 hours
Format: Arrive at NYC at 9:30 and check-in
Skippers / crew briefing
Allocation to boat and direction to same
Cruise / Race in the bay starting at 10:00
Back at NYC at 12:00 – 12:30
Barbecue / social
Remember that there are several options open to you if you want to extend your sailing experience out of NYC. We have our own adult training starting in June on the 1720s (watch for news), and we have GoSailing.ie, who have a fantastic 54′ sailing yacht (see gosailing.ie for full details, or drop down to the National Yacht Club on Thursday 2nd May from 17:00 onwards for a chance to see the yacht and have a bite and a social while learning more about it).
What we need from you:
Skippers of all types of boat to register interest, and to commit to the morning in question (c. 9:00 to 13:00). Ideally bring 1 or 2 of your regular crew and some invitees of your own.
Non-skippers – to register if you would like to take part and provide names of non-members who might enjoy the morning out.
Non-sailing members – here is your chance to get out for a bit of fun and a chance to bring a friend, or neighbour, or maybe a work colleague.
It is very important that you register for the event so that we can cater for everyone.
The overall objective is to showcase the National Yacht Club and to encourage new people to join the club.
For the Sail Spree to help us with this we will need skippers to sail their boats in the event and all members to provide new people on the day.
Your committee is working with the INSS and other sources to identify suitable prospects.
All new participants will be advised to wear appropriate clothing and to bring a life jacket if they have one. Skippers are asked to bring any spare life-jackets they might have.
